Tools and supplies for the craft obsessed

About The Golden Poplar

If you’re pretty obsessed with crafts, then relax. You’re among friends!

What I sell

Here at The Golden Poplar you can find tools to help make your crafting easier. I’m a crocheter and a knitter, so you can be assured that the tools I’m selling aren’t just clutter.

You can also find yarn that will bring life to your projects. And since I dye my yarns on a small scale, each hank of yarn will be fairly unique. When I don’t list it as a one-of-a-kind yarn I try to match each hank to the previously dyed ones as much as possible. But there will still be some subtle variations. Plus these yarns are quality yarns that I use in my own crafting.

The People of The Golden Poplar

Hi! I’m Margaret McLaren!

I picked up a crochet hook and a book about learning crochet shortly after our first child was born. It’s been a bit since then and I’m still crocheting. I like to use it to relax and quite often can’t stop talking about it. I’ve also recently picked up knitting, which isn’t relaxing yet. Once I get the hang of it I hope it will be.

I also sew and quilt. Sewing is a nice change to crochet. It’s morale-boosting to be able to get a project done quickly. I’ve not had much experience piecing and quilting. So I still very much consider myself a beginner quilter.

When I’m not crafting (rare!) I also like to read, cook, and kill plants (a.k.a. gardening).

This is Buddy McLaren! (He also says hi.)

I married a CNC machinist and my good fortune is your gain. What does it mean for you? It means my CNC-made items are programmed and run by a trained CNC operator. I provide the ideas and he makes the product.

Buddy also does woodworking. He likes using hand tools as much as possible. That doesn’t mean we don’t have power tools, though! One power tool we have (other than our CNC of course) is a lathe. Buddy enjoys turning lots of things on it, but mostly pens.

The Kids

We homeschool, so the kids are around a lot. They really like to help, so we let them. Why not, right? It’s very possible your order has been packed and sealed by one of them.

That’s interesting!
